In the past, asbestos shingles and color-coated steel shingles were commonly used for industrial buildings. Now that asbestos shingles are banned due to health concerns, and color-coated steel shingles offer poor sound insulation and are prone to rust, synthetic resin shingles have emerged as an excellent alternative.
Industrial buildings have several requirements for roofing materials: durability, ease of installation, watertightness, and affordability. Synthetic resin shingles generally meet all of these requirements.
First, in terms of durability, factory roofs are exposed to the elements year-round. Resin tiles are corrosion-resistant and do not rust, making them superior to color-coated steel tiles. In places like chemical plants and livestock farms, where the air is humid and contains corrosive gases, resin tiles are a more suitable choice.
Second, sound insulation. When it rains heavily, you can’t even hear yourself speak inside a color-coated steel sheet warehouse, and the machines have to be shut down. Resin roofing tiles provide much better sound insulation; while they don’t match concrete roofs, they are far superior to color-coated steel sheets.
Installation speed is a key advantage. In large-scale industrial facilities, workers can install the panels quickly without disrupting production. Additionally, the panels are lightweight, placing minimal demands on the building’s load-bearing structure, which makes them particularly convenient for renovation projects.
However, there is one important point to note: if the factory building contains high-temperature equipment, the roofing tiles near the exhaust ducts must be made of fire-resistant material or treated with thermal insulation. Since resin tiles are made of plastic, prolonged exposure to high temperatures can cause them to warp.
There’s also the issue of cost. Resin roofing tiles are more expensive per unit than color-coated steel roofing sheets, but they have a longer service life and don’t need to be replaced every few years, so they may actually be more cost-effective in the long run.
