How long will ASA resin roofing tiles last if installed according to specifications?

ASA resin roofing tiles offer excellent corrosion resistance, flame retardancy, waterproofing, and load-bearing capacity, along with an attractive, three-dimensional appearance and a wide variety of colors. However, to ensure that these tiles achieve their expected service life, attention to detail and proper installation techniques are essential.

Guangdong Gaoyi Building Materials shares tips and precautions for installing ASA resin roofing tiles;

1. Resin roofing tiles are highly waterproof; however, if the roof slope is not designed properly during installation, water may pool, leading to leaks. A roof slope of 20° to 80° is optimal, as this angle facilitates drainage and minimizes the risk of leaks.

2. Before laying out the lines for installation, determine the eave line, ridge line, and vertical lines for the main slopes based on the on-site roof conditions; for the side slopes, determine the eave line and vertical lines. When installing the first tile, establish vertical and horizontal reference lines, working from the center outward; install the two main slopes symmetrically at the same time. Setting out the lines before installation ensures that each main tile overlaps properly; otherwise, issues such as light leakage or water leakage may occur.

3. The optimal spacing for purlins under ASA resin roofing tiles is 660 mm or 880 mm. This ensures that the tiles do not bulge or sag due to thermal expansion and contraction. If the spacing is too wide, the roof surface is prone to sagging or arching, which can lead to quality issues such as leaks.

4. Ridge tiles are the part of the installation process most prone to problems. When installing them, pay attention to the following: First, ridge tiles and main tiles should be staggered to avoid multiple layers of overlap; second, nails should be driven into the ridge tiles and main tiles at the center of their joints; 3. If the angle of the ridge tile does not match the angle of the roof ridge frame, do not force the ridge tile into place.

5. Installation of Main Tiles: When installing main tiles, install them against the prevailing wind direction, overlapping one roof slope, and work on both sides simultaneously. When installing main tiles on a double-sloped roof, start from one end of the building. The center of the ridge on one side of the main tile should align with the vertical line of the synthetic resin tile’s wave. Both the top and bottom edges of the main tile should align with the vertical line of the tile’s wave, and both the top and bottom edges should be parallel to the eave’s horizontal line. Once properly positioned, secure the tile at the lower purlin and the center ridge of the tile. To prevent unevenness caused by single-direction overlapping, install the main tiles horizontally in an alternating pattern (one above, one below), with each overlapping by one tile ridge; proceed in the same manner for the rest.

6. When installing with self-tapping screws, be careful not to drive them directly into the troughs or the transition areas above or below the troughs. Do not drive nails or screws directly into the material without waterproofing accessories, and do not overtighten the screws. Guangdong Gaoyi Building Materials recommends using “special expansion nails” when installing resin roofing tiles. These nails drill and expand the hole simultaneously, allowing for sufficient expansion space. Additionally, nails must not be driven into the troughs; instead, they should be positioned at the center of the ridges. Do not over-tighten the nails, as this may cause the resin roofing tiles to warp or break.
